Recovery College Cornwall

Laura shares her experiences

Laura, a Recovery College Cornwall learner discusses the challenges she has faced and her experiences at the college.

My journey whilst at the Recovery College has been hugely beneficial and rewarding to me. I came to the Recovery College as I had hit a rough patch in my life around Christmas time. I felt completely lost, with lack of confidence and had no idea which direction I wanted to go in. I was in a bad place, full of uncertainty, which was impacting on me and my family.

I’m so glad I reached out for help. When I started the courses, I felt like I had a purpose. It was new to me doing mental health course through skype, and to start with I was very sceptical. My fears were soon squashed, the ease of accessing the help in this way was great. I could even keep my pyjama bottoms on and no one knew. Full comfort for learning.

The courses were great. I have previously received a lot of mental health help but I had forgotten many of the skills. The Recovery College courses reinstated to me tools I already knew, but new ones as well. Becky my support worker has been incredible. During the course I had a huge trauma happen within my life. Becky was so understanding and gave me the time and support I needed to cope with this. Now coming out the other side I have purpose, I feel super settled and I’m back in a positive mindset. Becky has guided me at the right times and I am now currently undertaking a Level 2 in Awareness of Mental Health course.

All this has happened due to my mental health deteriorating. It just shows with having the right incredible support around you, you really can achieve anything in life.
